　　being an inepensive and convenient source of entertainment, karaoke is of various functions. firstly, it enlarges our social circle and strengthens our bond (紐帶). secondly, karaoke can remove the ban of social walls between people. thirdly, it helps channel enthusiasm (熱愛) into enjoyable and instructive pastimes (消遣). the list does not stop here.

　　however, it can also be a nuisance. for instance, some fans sing loudly late at night, which disturbs others. for another instance, some suffer from a sore throat from ecessive practice. karaoke, in the final analysis, should be for the overall improvement of social civilization. its enduring appeal should lie in the high quality of entertainment, not noise pollution.

　　One day, a rabbit and a tortoise decided to have a race. After everything was ready, they stood on the starting line.

　　At first, the rabbit ran faster than the tortoise and left it far behind. The rabbit was very proud of itself. Then the rabbit thought,“The tortoise is too slow to catch up with me. So I have time to have a sleep. Maybe when I wake up, it can’t get here yet.”With these thoughts, it began to sleep under a big tree. At the same time, the tortoise tried its best to run. Even though it felt tired, it didn’t give up.

　　Finally, when the tortoise reached the finishing line, the tortoise was waiting for the rabbit with a smile. The rabbit was ashamed.

　　一天，一只兔子和一只烏龜決定比賽。一切準備就緒后，他們就站在起跑線上。
